I was raised in a typical southern Baptist church. We sang the hymns from hardback song books. I sang them not really knowing what truth they held. The more my relationship grows with Abba Father – as the Holy Spirit continues to teach me concerning the Scripture, those old songs become more and more precious to me. One of them is a song written in 1880 by Louisa M.R. Stead. Louisa lost her husband while he was trying to save a young boy who was drowning. From this personal tragedy she later wrote the song- “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His word; Just to rest upon his promise, Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.” Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more! O how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust his cleansing blood; And in simple faith to plunge me Neath the healing, cleansing flood! Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease; Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest, and joy and peace. I’m so glad I learned to trust thee Precious Jesus, Savior, friend; And I know that thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end.
“Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and song; yes, He has become my salvation”. Isaiah 12:2
